The first week of Barack Obama's presidency has concluded. In a show of bravado, he snubbed the Bush Administration's tenure and promptly announced a close to the Guantanamo Bay prison within a year's time.
What he hasn't done is restore the right of habeus corpus. Considering his economic plan is full of holes, he is wise to not restore this right. Throughout the world, tensions are at a boiling point. As economist Robert Wade has pointed out: "It will be caused by the general awareness throughout Europe, America, and Asia that hundreds and millions of people in rich and poor countries are experiencing rapidly falling consumption standards; that the crisis is getting worse, not better, and that it has escaped the control of public authorities, national and international."
